When There is No Traffic (i.e. in
the middle of the night!)...
...the A22/23 out of London, through
Purley and then the A22 to East Grinstead/Forest Row is perfectly satisfactory.
Most of the Time....
...it is best to go for the M25.
People reach this by various routes depending on what part of London they are
coming from. Putney Bridge/A3 and off on the Leatherhead road and then on to
the M25 via Chessington Zoo is the most popular route but it is possible to go
through Wimbledon and head for Reigate and join the M25 that way.
Once on the M25....
... take the M23 turnoff. Proceed
along the M23 and come off it when you reach the East Grinstead turnoff (the one
after Gatwick). Follow signs to East Grinstead, turning right at the Felbridge
traffic lights and keeping on the A22 towards Forest Row (and Eastbourne)...
If you would be passing through East
Grinstead at any time between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. or 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. or on
a Saturday morning, avoid it by taking the right turn at the second roundabout
after you have come off the M23. This road is signposted to Haywards Heath and
Turners Hill. Go straight through Turners Hill and exactly a mile from the
crossroads in Turners Hill you will see a left hand fork to Sharpthorne and West
Hoathly. Go through Sharpthorne and at the Plaw Hatch X road (you are on the
main road) turn right to Wych Cross. At the traffic lights go straight ahead.
Follow this road for about 2/3 miles taking the first opportunity to turn left.
This takes you to Coleman’s Hatch church where you turn left and our drive is
exactly one mile along from there on the right on a very sharp left hand bend.
If You are Coming Through East
Grinstead....
...at any other time, come straight
along the A22, into Forest Row and then take the left turn at the roundabout in
the middle of the village..........
.........from here travel about a
mile and a half and you will see our school drive on the left hand side just
before a big right hand bend (at the time of posting this there is a building
site with blue hoarding just before our drive).
From Tunbridge Wells
direction....
...take the B2110 through
Groombridge, Hartfield and Colemans Hatch towards Forest Row and East Grinstead.
Colemans Hatch church is on a sharp right hand bend and the school drive is
exactly one mile from the church on the right hand side of the road immediately
after a very sharp left hand bend (signal before you go round the bend!). If you
get to a traffic calming ‘pinchpoint’ you have gone about 50 metres too far.
From Uckfield and the coast.....
...come up the A22 to Forest Row.
As you come down the hill into the village with the church on your left, turn
right at the small roundabout.
From here travel about a mile and a
half and you will see our school drive on the left hand side just before a big
right hand bend (at the time of posting this there is a building site with blue
hoarding just before our drive)
Once you have turned into the
drive....
There is rather a small discreet
white noticeboard which says Ashdown House, Heasmans and Cobbers on it. Once on
the school drive there are two opportunities of going left. Don't take either
of them and you will finish up at the front of the school!
Alternative Route – a route less
likely to have any hold ups (certainly once off the M25….)
Junction 6 of M25, then A25 to Oxted
(and towards Westerham/Sevenoaks). Go past Oxted and take B269 to Edenbridge
(it becomes the B2026 at Crockham Hill ). Keep going on same road for about 5
(?) miles past Edenbridge and you will come to a junction with A 264; turn left
and then immediately right. Follow that road to junction (about 2-3 miles)
where you turn right (in effect straight ahead) onto the B2110. Go through
Hartfield and keep on that road for about 2 miles when you come to Coleman’s
Hatch. Colemans Hatch church is on a sharp right hand bend and the school drive
is exactly one mile from the church on the right hand side of the road
immediately after a very sharp left hand bend (signal before you go round the
bend!).
