Choral Day
7 March
The
Gala performance of our new Director of Music's Requiem was
breathtaking, inspirational and just plain brilliant. After months of
trying to coordinate the Ashdown children, the Chapel Choir, the adult
singers and the Orchestra as well as the dreadful business of copying
and collating his masterpiece, Anthony Merryweather must feel that all
the hard work was worthwhile. It was an amazing piece - suitably sombre
but containing some haunting yet upbeat sections. The professional
Orchestra included four Ashdown children who played beautifully and the
soloists - all Ashdown choristers were faultless. Thank you to all who
added their support.... In years to come when Merryweather's Requiem is
sung in St Paul's or Westminster Abbey, we'll be able to say 'we
heard/sang/played it first'!
From
the very youngest to the oldest visitor, the standing ovation and the
comments from parents, colleagues and friends say it all - Bravo
Maestro!
