Some schools came
down from London to spend a glorious day at Ashdown. There were
about 100 children altogether. We met them behind Beech House and
they had some refreshments before everything started.
Most people played in the cricket tournament
which Mr Hogue organised. The rest were divided into two groups.
The first group went for a walk and collected all sorts of leaves,
twigs and flowers around the Jungle Block. Then they went to the
Art Room where Miss Lane-Cole had prepared some tables with water
colours, collage, pastels and charcoal. We used the materials to
make something with the things we had collected. Everyone had
something to take home.
The other group did some drama with Mr
Moore; something to do with some Roald Dahl stories. It was great
fun.
We had a fantastic BBQ lunch with
meringues, passion fruit, strawberries and cream. Ashdown food is
always so delicious and the visitors were really happy.
After lunch we had a bit of free time which
was great fun. We put on our trainers and went down to the athletics
field where Mr Moore organised a game of stoolball. He chose
captains and then left us to pick our own teams. Then he explained
it really well and Mrs Costin scored. Mr Moore was the bowler for
both sides. At the end it was a draw and we were all exhausted and
ready for a swim. Some of us did a lot of lengths and some dives
too.
We were all very hungry and went back to
Beech House where the cricket had finished and there was a match tea
and some special goody bags for the cricketers. There were some
medals for the best team. Everyone agreed that it had been a very
good day in the fresh air. We were lucky that the rain had stopped
in time and the sun came out.
After that we said goodbye to our visitors
and they set off for London. We think that they had enjoyed their
day very much.
