A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The play was introduced by two drummers; they drummed excellently for roughly five minutes. We were then introduced to Theseus, the Duke of Athens, and Hippolyta, the Queen, with Demetrius, Hermia and Lysander. Demetrius was to be married to Hermia on orders from Theseus, but she loved Lysander, and together they decided to flee to a wood. We also learnt of Helena, who loved Demetrius. Unfortunately, Demetrius hated Helena and threatened her as she followed him.

The actors were outstanding; my favourite characters were Nick Bottom and Puck, who were extremely funny. It was amazing to see just how funny they could make a play. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. They still used the words Shakespeare has given us but they managed to make it into one of the funniest plays I have ever seen.

The Globe Theatre was amazing; I liked the traditional idea of standing in the yard but also being able to sit around the outside.
