Since
September, all 1s pupils have been working hard on a challenging Go Kart
project in Design Technology. They worked in teams to design and build
their ideas. Each team began with a thick plywood board to shape and
decorate then add wheels, steering mechanisms and seating. Some were
strengthened and some decided to include a trailor for an extra person.
The
project finale was the Go Kart Trials along the drive at the rear of
Ashdown on Friday 2nd May. Nerves and excitement grew as they donned
their helmets and prepared to test their creations. The majority of
Karts were highly successful. While a few met some obstacles along the
way, many made the full journey to a great round of applause from an
audience of staff and other pupils.
Bea Van
Grutten and Dani Perry worked hard to produce an excellent Go Kart in
the style of a giant Ladybird.
Mungo
Akerman independently built a strong and well decorated Kart.
Fraser
Morrison, William St John, Robin Elliott and Lloyd Roberts created a
Chariot Kart using a strengthened board for their vehicle and a modified
pram as a towed wheelchair.
The ‘pink
and purple peril’ was made by Tami Osho and Gabi Hill.
Lily Hely-Hutchinson
and Imogen Yeates made a ‘push me pull you’ style Kart.
Their
work was impressive, with some especially ambitious design ideas. It was
fantastic to see all these efforts rewarded in this final trial session,
not to mention highly entertaining for all. |
