The main emphasis
of Religious Studies teaching at Ashdown House is on the study of Christianity
as part of our heritage and as a living faith.
Religious Studies
teaching benefits from the fact that a number of Christian festivals are
celebrated by the school in a number of special services, either in the school
chapel or at the local church. By and large, festivals are studied at the
appropriate times (with reference to the ISEB Religious Studies Syllabus) so
that the pupils can make more sense of what is going on.
Throughout the
school, Religious Studies is taught as an academic subject and expectations are
high. There is good scope for discussion work, drama and creative
artwork. At all times there
is an emphasis on seeing the study of religion as something which is relevant,
interesting and enjoyable. We aim to foster a spirit of enquiry, understanding,
respect for the views of others, an awareness of moral values, and the ability
to present ideas and arguments.
