Playing

Leisure activities in spare time are important in a boarding school.  Without them children may not learn how to plan their own time or how to be creative in their own recreation.  There is a wide variety of clubs which a pupil may join: usually these include adventure, Chess, Scottish Dancing, Cooking, Model Railway, Polo, Gardening, Photography and such things.

A member of staff is in charge of each club and organises its activites regularly once a week.  There is a well stocked library and all the pupils are encouraged to read out of school.  Suitable newspapers and periodicals are provided.  'Free time' and the opportunity to 'muck about' are important aspects of boarding school life.  Children must be allowed space and time for this but there is a discreet eye kept on those who find it difficult to use leisure time sensibly.
