Music

The music department is run by professionals and the Director of Music is always a full time member of staff.  As well as Class Music there are two choirs, an orchestra and several ensembles: during the year there is a choral day and there are a number of concerts.  Most children during their time at Ashdown will have a go at playing something; well over half persevere and reach good standards of performance.  Tuition can be provided as an extra in nearly all orchestral instruments.

So important do we regard Music and Drama that in 1986 we built a new Theatre and Music Schools.  Plays are put on every term and almost every pupil in the school will be on stage in some capacity or other every year.  We usually perform four or five shorter plays each Autumn Term, and in the Lent and Summer Term there is one major production.  While we aim for the highest possible standards, our two priorities are that it should be great fun and that as many as possible should be involved.
