School Life

The work of the school is of central importance.  Our syllabuses are those commonly used in preparatory schools which prepare their pupils for the leading public schools.  The demands of the syllabuses meet the requirements of the National Curriculum with something to spare, and tests and assessments have always been part and parcel of our curriculum.

We are lucky to have had some able boys and girls who have won scholarships, but the majority of children will take the Common Entrance examination to the leading academic public schools.  These schools are chosen carefully by parents in consultation with the Headmaster and failure is therefore not envisaged.  There is no entry test for pupils but, where possible, the Headmaster interviews every pupil the term before arrival.

From the start the youngest will learn to move about between the Science Laboratory, the DT Centre, the Computer Room, the Music Schools, the Art Room and other departments.  French is taught throughout the school, Latin is started in the second year and Greek is an option available later for the more academic pupil.
