Golf v Brambletye

1st IV        Lost ½ - 1 ½
On Monday afternoon four of Ashdown’s finest golfers took on a Brambletye
quartet in a 9-hole match play competition, played at Villa Golf.   The first match, Charlie G paired with Ollie. The boys competed well throughout their match, fighting back from a one hole deficit on
three separate occasions to level the match after seven holes. Brambletye took a decisive advantage on the eighth hole and held on to halve the ninth hole and win the match. In the second match, Tom paired with Daniel D. The boys raced ahead after a confident start, finding themselves two up after three
holes. Brambletye battled back and were one up after eight holes. Tom played
peerlessly on the ninth to win the hole for his team and tie the second match.
In the end Brambletye edged to a narrow victory, but all involved can be very
satisfied with how they played. JT

Golf v Brambletye

On Sunday afternoon the golf team travelled to Effingham Park to play a match against Brambletye. Cosme partnered Charlie G in the first pairing and came up against a very strong Brambletye golfer. Despite this they played some excellent golf; Charlie in particular had some outstanding tee shots including driving the green on the 7th, leaving himself a putt for birdie. The pair fought hard but narrowly lost 5-4 on the final hole.

Second pairing Ollie  and Tom  formed a strong partnership as our second pair. Tom, who has been working on his short game, produced some excellent chipping and both players proved too strong for the opposition and ran away with their game 6 1/2 - 2 1/2. This gave Ashdown the overall win, scoring 10 1/2 to Brambletye's 7 1/2.

The boys must be congratulated on a fine afternoon of golf that was played with outstanding sportsmanship. Well done also to Runo who travelled as a spare player and was a very good caddie indeed!   RC
