Hockey v Lancing Prep
1st VII Lost 1-6
The 1st VII travelled to Lancing College to face a strong Lancing Prep side. We took to the pitch and had a feisty first 10 minutes, having three good shots on goal and lots of aggressive play in defence. We made a few mistakes towards the end of the first half which Lancing was able to capitalise on but we were able to draw the scoreline closer with a stunning breakaway by Felicity and beautiful assist through to Emma who drilled the ball past the keeper just as the halftime buzzer rang.
The second half was again closely contested though, unfortunately, the opposition was able to capitalise on more of their shots. We did have a beautiful connection from Emma to Chloe on the far post but, disappointingly, the goal was disallowed. Patricia was again outstanding in goal, making multiple saves on the day. Though the scoreline didn't fall our way on this occasion, I was particularly impressed with the determination and the amount of shots we had on goal. It was good progress made on previous matches. Well done, girls! AG
U11 Drew 1-1
The girls, with the exception of Clara, were a little slow to start today. We had our fair share of the play, but were not running towards the ball or thinking prior to making the pass. Several short corners were attempted by each team, but it was not until the final minute of the first half that Lancing managed to get one past Eva.
After a half-time talk we came out of the blocks for the second half with much more purpose; now we looked dangerous. Our higher work load paid dividends just before the final whistle when, after a full minute of attack around the circle, Giada found the back of the goal.
An extremely fair result although, if we had worked harder in the first half, we could have stolen the win. ‘Man’ of the match Clara and Eva PMc
Under 10/9 Won 5-0
Another fantastic game from the under 10/9/8 team who remain undefeated this season!
The first goal came from Mimosa soon after the starting whistle, beautifully set up by Stephanie. Play wasn’t perfect in the first half and the defending was good, however once the girls had stopped the ball they often hit it any way they could without thinking about where it was going or who could receive it. This made the play quite frantic between the two teams. A second goal from Stephanie came later in the second half with the help of Indya, Bea and Bailey playing in attack. Throughout the first half there were also numerous footwork errors meaning possession was passed over to the other team.
Half time bought an opportunity to have a team talk. The girls were made aware of their passing and footwork errors which really helped going into the second half.
With a few changes to the team positions, a better awareness of the space and who the ball was being passed to, it was a well played second half. One more goal came from Mimosa and two more came from Stephanie with the support of the attacking team. They were a spectacular pairing today and the passage of the ball from Mimosa to Stephanie was accurately passed and received achieving great results. During the game Florence, Ana, Tabitha and Lily all played in defence. They were strong together and made it tricky for the Lancing team to get through.
Player of the match went to today’s captain, Mimosa, which was very well deserved after some superb play. Well done to all of the girls for a well played match. LP
