“Geography is a living, breathing subject, constantly adapting itself to change. It is dynamic and relevant. For me, geography is a great adventure with a purpose.” Michael Palin
The Geography teaching at Ashdown House instils knowledge of the physical world around us. We encourage our children to be open-minded and inquisitive and to give them the skills and abilities required to understand our planet.
Fun and enjoyment are key to successful learning, ensuring the subject is accessible to pupils whatever their ability. We embrace technology, practise fieldwork and promote cross-curricular links, including an annual joint Geography, Science and Art trip to Cuckmere Haven, where the children learn about field sketching, collecting raw data and analysing beach processes.
Pupils are encouraged to share ideas and help each other to develop their understanding of the subject. All work is linked towards the Common Entrance Exam whilst working closely with the aims of the National curriculum, to help pupils develop a sense of identity as inhabitants of Britain, Europe and the world.
